Do you know a place in Gothenburg that serves breakfast and brunch every day and seven days a week from 7am? If you do not know, you will know now: Egg & Milk.

Since Egg & Milk was created in 2005 our ethos has been to offer the greatest American pancakes, bagels, waffles, omelets and milk shakes using the highest quality ingredients, a relaxed atmosphere and a service to remember.

It’ s a quirky and cool nod to the classic American Diner with the 50s dining booths, pink waitress uniforms and fresh made comfort food taking centre stage.

If you want to treat yourself to get over a hangover or, treat your friend or family with a good breakfast or brunch, you can visit Egg & Milk preceded or succeeded by a walk or a jog in Slottskogen. We welcome the early birds, but are just as happy to cater to the late-risers.


Our FRESH food philosophy

Homemade and made to order! Our philosophy is that the best tasting food is the food made from scratch, without the use of preservatives or additives, using the freshest ingredients we can buy. Our pancake batters are made fresh daily, using locally sourced milk and fresh eggs. We produce our bagels according to original American recipes with original American ingredients. And we fill and prepare our bagel sandwiches freshly toasted, every time.

We simply make every effort to provide you the finest and freshest breakfast, brunch and lunch food because we know you can taste the difference.

meet our founder anna schärlin

It started with a round the world trip… Back in 2005 Anna Schärling opened Egg & Milk with an idea to have a place where you could enjoy American breakfast and brunch – every day. And American breakfast means one thing: many different options.

After many years of successfully establishing and running the French bakery and pastry shop Le Pain Français, Anna Schärlin and her husband were tired of working round the clock. They had two toddlers, and wanted to have a working life that better suited their new situation. Running an artisan bakery with its trials and triumphs was a labour of love, but hard to combine with running a family.

They sold the popular bakery and set off on their dream vacation; a three month round the world trip: Bali, Australia, New Zeeland, USA and then back home again. On the way an idea sprouted.

After visiting a series of amazing morning cafés in Sanur, Sydney, Queenstown, Miami and New Orleans, it dawned on them what was missing in Gothenburg. A place that opens early to serve only breakfast & brunch and then closes in the afternoon – a concept that was new to their hometown and that was perfect to combine with a growing family.

They already had the perfect locale: the store space opposite their former bakery. Perfectly located on the sunny side of the street in a beautiful 100 year old apartment building, and they had bought it before leaving for their journey.

When they returned to Sweden they threw themselves into building and launching their new project. In the process of working out the menu, they realized they had two recurring ingredients: “Eggs and milk. Hmm… Hey, that’s a great name!”
